Mary Katherine Cherry - NA6E
1957 - 2009

"If Smiles and Laughter are contagious, the entire QRP community is infected..."

Mary was licensed first as KF6SZC and immediately realized that QRP & CW contesting would be quite a bit of work with that call! Mary took my father's old novice call WN6HYX and put it on the air for a year, since he never had a chance before he passed. Mary then upgraded to Extra Class , passing her 20WPM Morse Code test without any problems, having spent 8 years in the U.S. Navy in Communications and Cryptography, copying CW 18 hours a day!

After spending many days looking through the available Vanity calls, NA6E - "North America 6 Echo" became "The One". While a microphone was a foreign tool for her," this call just rolls off my tounge" and felt if SSB were 'ever used', it would be an advantage. She was right, again!
